Iran: USS BUSH Carrier Strike Group departs, set to replace USS FORD 01/04/2026 | EDITORIAL TEAM

Yesterday, March 31, the aircraft carrier USS BUSH and its Carrier Strike Group (CSG) departed from the U.S. Navy’s Naval Station Norfolk, Virginia, on a “scheduled deployment.” Although the U.S. Navy has not officially confirmed it, it is clear that the CSG is heading toward the Eastern Mediterranean, in order to reinforce the U.S. military posture in the Middle East as part of the war against Iran.

More specifically, it is highly likely - virtually certain - that USS BUSH and its group will replace USS FORD, which is currently docked in Split (Croatia), following a previous stop in Souda Bay (Crete), due to technical issues (sewage system problems and a fire incident). It is worth recalling that USS FORD has been deployed continuously since last June.

The USS Bush Carrier Strike Group includes the aircraft carrier itself, embarked with one F/A-18F squadron (VFA-103), three F/A-18E squadrons (VFA-83, VFA-105, and VFA-131), one EA-18G squadron (VAQ-140), as well as an E-2D HAWKEYE AEW squadron, a CMV-22B OSPREY detachment, MH-60R and MH-60S helicopter squadrons, and three ARLEIGH BURKE-class destroyers: USS MASON (DDG-87), USS ROSS (DDG-71), and USS DONALD COOK (DDG-75).

The CSG is expected to take between two and three weeks to reach the area of operations.
