Today, 17 April, the MGCS Project Company GmbH, the industrial consortium behind the Franco-German MGCS (Main Ground Combat System) programme, has been officially established in Cologne, Germany.
The project, as previously announced, will create the future European land combat system, based on a family of heavy tracked combat platforms of the new generation.
The new company is jointly owned by the four companies involved in the programme: KNDS Deutschland, KNDS France, Rheinmetall Landsysteme and Thales. Each of them holds a 25% stake, a decision taken with the aim of maintaining a 50/50 share between the two countries.
The CEO, a German national, is Stefan Gramolla, Colonel in the German Armed Forces Reserve. MGCS Project Company GmbH, as prime contractor, will be responsible for implementing Phase 1B of the programme, which involves the start of construction of an as yet undetermined number of demonstrator vehicles in the coming months.
