The Indonesian Army has upgraded 6 of its Bell 412EP helicopters with Bell Textron’s BasiX-Pro Glass Cockpit Retrofit Kit. The avionics retrofit on these helicopters aligns them with the systems found in current Subaru Bell 412EPX and Bell 429s, a Bell Textron release stated.
The modernisation effort was undertaken by PT. Black Diamond Heliaero (BDH), a Bell Authorized Maintenance Center in Indonesia. “Our successful collaboration with Bell’s aftermarket teams allowed us to complete this important project for the Indonesian Army Aviation on an accelerated timeline,” said Karina Kasih, President Director, BDH.
The 6 Bell 412EP helicopters will be operated by Indonesian Army Aviation and the avionics upgrade will reduce pilot workload and improve situational awareness, enhancing operational efficiency. "We are proud of the initial positive feedback regarding how these helicopters with the newly retrofitted systems are already enhancing Army operations in diverse terrain at high altitudes and in rapidly changing weather conditions,” said Chris Schaefer, vice president, Global Customer Solutions, Bell.
As part of the upgrade effort, the analog instruments on the Bell 412EP’s were replaced with the BasiX-Pro Glass Cockpit Retrofit Kit. The fully integrated glass cockpit system utilizes current Bell production displays from Astronautics and Garmin avionics.
The Army operates a large fleet of 57-62 Bell 412 helicopters representing a mix of license-built and US-manufactured aircraft with Indonesian customization.
