Today, on the sidelines of the International Defence Exhibition (IDEX) 2025, Leonardo and EDGE – the Emirati state mega holding company – have signed a collaboration agreement.
As we learn from the official press release, the agreement aims to strengthen the joint design capabilities of the two companies in the realisation of systems for all domains considered to be of crucial importance: air, land, naval and cyber.
The agreement anticipates what will be a more structured partnership agreement, which will mainly concern the United Arab Emirates market, but also the export market. Through this collaboration, the two companies aim to consolidate existing synergies and maximise new opportunities for closer collaboration, in order to seize and develop opportunities in different sectors more effectively.
These include radar technologies, anti-drone and surveillance systems, air defence (particularly in the field of tactical ballistic missile defence), combat management systems (CMS) for naval vessels, radio communications and, finally, optical targeting systems.
The agreement, about which no further details have emerged at the moment, once again testifies to the marked improvement in relations between Italy and the UAE after the crisis that occurred in recent years. This development is also due to the political and personal bond that has been created between the Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, and MBZ (Mohamed Bin Zayed, Al Nayan), who will be in Italy on 24 February.
