PT SSE and Texelis Unveil the New P2 TIGER for Indonesian Army 28/01/2025 | Marco Giulio Barone

On January 23, 2025, PT SSE presented its new P2 TIGER 4x4 APC at its headquarters in Tangerang, near Jakarta, Indonesia. The unveiling ceremony was attended by prominent Indonesian and French officials, including the French Ambassador to Indonesia, representatives from the Indonesian House of Representatives, and military leaders from both countries.

The P2 TIGER represents a significant leap forward in Indonesian defence capabilities. This 18-ton 4x4 combat vehicle is the result of a unique partnership between PT SSE, an Indonesian private system integrator, and Texelis, a French mobility solution specialist. PT SSE designed the vehicle's architecture and armoured hull, which was produced and welded in their Tangerang factory.

The company also handled the complete assembly of all components, with Texelis providing support for integrating the CELERIS mobility platform. This collaboration exemplifies a new model of industrial cooperation, where expertise is shared to create a truly sovereign product. he P2 TIGER boasts specifications that position it as PT SSE's most advanced armoured vehicle to date. With a maximum gross vehicle weight of 18 tons and an empty weight of 14 tons, the P2 TIGER offers a balance of protection and mobility. It can transport a combat group of 8 passengers and 2 crew members under STANAG 2 to 4 level armour protection.

Built on Texelis' CELERIS mobility platform, the P2 TIGER incorporates cutting-edge technology designed to master the most challenging terrains. The vehicle features a powerful 375 hp Cummins engine, an Allison 6-speed automatic transmission, and Texelis-manufactured T750 axles, among other high-performance components. One of the most remarkable aspects of the P2 TIGER project is the speed at which it was developed and produced.

PT SSE and Texelis first met in Indonesia in March 2023, and within a year, a contract was signed for the delivery of the first CELERIS mobility kit. This rapid progress was made possible by the availability of components from the ongoing production of SERVAL mobility kits for the French Army, which share many elements with the CELERIS solution.

The collaboration between PT SSE and Texelis demonstrates a new approach to vehicle development, where a mobility solution provider goes beyond simply supplying hardware. Texelis' commitment to supporting the entire development process, from initial studies to assembly and testing, has resulted in a mutually beneficial partnership that has accelerated the project timeline significantly.

The P2 TIGER project aligns with the Indonesian Ministry of Defence’s strategy to increase local content in Indonesian defence industries. As an Indonesian vehicle developed by a private Indonesian company, the P2 TIGER represents a significant step towards greater self-reliance in defence capabilities.

This project has facilitated substantial skills and technology transfers, enabling PT SSE to enhance its production capabilities, expand its team, and deepen its understanding of embedded technologies. The collaboration with Texelis has allowed PT SSE to create a modern and high-performance 18-ton 4x4 vehicle offering, tailored to the needs of the Indonesian army and potential export markets.

In terms of political-military ties, the partnership between PT SSE and Texelis serves as a symbol of Franco-Indonesian cooperation, coinciding with the 75th anniversary of friendship between the two nations in 2025. The project has received full support from both French and Indonesian authorities, including the French Defence Mission at the French Embassy in Jakarta and the Indonesian Ministry of Defence. This collaboration goes beyond a simple business arrangement, fostering a long-term partnership that could extend to other areas of cooperation. The shared technology and expertise between the P2 TIGER and the French Army's SERVAL vehicles might also enhance interoperability and mutual benefits from operational feedback and ongoing developments.

A complete reportage on Texelis' technology and production capabilities will be published on FW-1 2025, available in a few days.
