Today, Intermarine (part of the IMMSI Group) started the fiberglass hull lamination of the second Next-Generation Minehunter in coastal variant (CNG/C) for the Italian Navy at its Sarzana (SP) shipyard.
The CNG/C is one of 5 units ordered by the Italian Navy under the contract signed in 2024 between Intermarine and Leonardo, acting as a Temporary Grouping of Enterprises (RTI), and the Naval Armaments Directorate (NAVARM). The contract is worth €1.6 billion, with an additional €1 billion option for the completion of the program.
The ceremony was attended by the Director of Naval Armaments, Chief Inspector Admiral Cristiano Nervi, along with local civilian authorities, hosted by the CEO of the IMMSI Group, Michele Colaninno, and by Intermarine's Chairman and CEO, Antonino Parisi and Livio Corghi respectively. The event took place less than a year after the ceremony for the first minehunter, held in September 2025.
The CNG/C units, the first of which is scheduled for delivery in 2028, will renew the Italian Navy's mine countermeasures component, currently based on 10 vessels — 2 of the LERICI class and 8 of the GAETA class — assigned to the 5th Naval Division. The new platforms, approximately 63 m long with a displacement of about 1,300 t, feature advanced mine clearance capabilities, supported by a broad range of autonomous systems designed to reduce risk to crews. They will also be able to conduct seabed surveillance missions for the control and protection of critical underwater infrastructure.
