On July 12, 2026, US Central Command (CENTCOM) employed Unmanned Surface Vessels (USVs) in a suicide attack role in combat for the first time.

3 CORSAIR USVs struck a submarine and surface vessel maintenance facility located at the Iranian naval base of Bandar Abbas.

Footage released by CENTCOM shows one of the CORSAIRs in the terminal phase of its attack run against a GHADIR-class submarine while sitting drydocked on the pier.

The CORSAIRs are assigned to Task Force 59 of the US 5th Fleet, the unit dedicated to the experimentation and operational integration of unmanned systems and artificial intelligence.

Built by US company Saronic Technologies, the CORSAIR is a surface drone measuring 7.3 m in length, with diesel propulsion, a top speed of 35 knots, a stated range of 1,000 nm, and a payload capacity of 1,000 lb (approximately 450 kg).
