Eurosatory: Malaysia orders 18 CAESAR self-propelled howitzers 19/06/2026 | Atul Chandra

KNDS has secured an order from Malaysia for 18 CAESAR 155 mm/52 calibre self-propelled howitzers (SPH), the company announced at the Eurosatory defence exhibition. This is Malaysia’s first order for the French-built artillery system.

The initial order for 18 systems would be delivered by KNDS in collaboration with its local industrial partner Advanced Defence System (ADS Sdn Bhd) and includes a technology transfer licence with assembly of the systems at the ADS Assembly Plant in Johor. Nicolas Groult, Chief Executive Officer of KNDS France said the contract reflected the company’s commitment to supporting Malaysia’s defence capability development and localisation objectives.

The truck-mounted CAESAR 6x6 system weighs approximately 18 tonnes and can be transported by C-130 tactical transport aircraft. The system is capable of firing six rounds in less than one minute before relocating in less than two and a half minutes. It has a maximum firing range of approximately 40 km, depending on ammunition type.

Malaysia is 15th country to order the Caesar truck-mounted artillery system. KNDS’s global orderbook for the SPH exceeds 800 systems. Separately, Malaysia is also pursuing an army requirement for 36 new 105 mm towed howitzers to equip two artillery regiments.  An acquisition decision is expected by July 2026.

Malaysia had previously ordered 18 Nexter 105 LG1 Mk III lightweight towed artillery guns in April 2018. The package included long range ERG3 ammunition and Bacara ballistic computers. The three year contract commenced with the delivery of the first six light guns in November 2019 and ADS delivered all 18 guns to the Malaysian Army by December 2020. The 105mm LG1 MKIII was assembled at the ADS Assembly Plant in Johor.
