At Eurosatory 2026, currently underway at the Villepinte exhibition center north of Paris, German defense company Rheinmetall has unveiled a new containerized launcher for its FV-014 reconnaissance and attack loitering munition.
The truck-transportable container features a compact operator workspace — crew size was not officially confirmed, but the limited interior space suggests a maximum of 2 operators — and accommodates 18 ready-to-launch FV-014 rounds.
The FV-014 has a range of 100 km and a total weight of 20 kg, of which 4 kg is the High-Explosive Dual Purpose (HEDP) warhead, optimized for engaging artillery, armored vehicles, and other Beyond Line of Sight (BLOS) targets. The system can loiter on station for 70 minutes and operates in man-in-the-loop mode: via a ground control station, the operator designates targets, authorizes the attack, and retains the ability to abort the mission at any point as operational conditions evolve.
The FV-014 is also designed for swarm operations, with a single operator able to manage multiple units simultaneously and conduct coordinated recce-strike missions.
In April, the German Armed Forces (Bundeswehr) placed an order with Rheinmetall for tens of thousands of FV-014 munitions. The total contract value has not been disclosed, but the first delivery order is worth approximately €300 million. Deliveries of the first batch are scheduled to begin in the first half of 2027, with qualification activities already underway from Q2 2026.
