Another night of war.
In an apparent attempt to break the negotiating deadlock - as announced by President Trump on Tuesday evening - the United States launched a series of airstrikes against Iran, employing approximately 50 TOMAHAWK cruise missiles.
The strikes primarily targeted sites in southern Iran, in the Bushehr and Bandar Abbas areas and on the islands of the Strait of Hormuz, as well as military installations in the north of the country - notably in the Karaj area (Payam Airport) and Pishva.
The operation was framed as an exercise in coercive diplomacy. Tehran's response, however, was not long in coming: Iran launched missiles and drones against Kuwait, Jordan, and Bahrain, raising the stakes in return. In Jordan, Salti Air Base - where approximately 60 US combat aircraft are deployed - was struck. The area of the US Navy Fifth Fleet base in Bahrain is also reported to have been hit again.
Tehran simultaneously declared the complete closure of the Strait of Hormuz; at least 2 vessels reportedly came under attack. President Trump stated that if Iran does not accept a deal, strikes will resume and Iran "will be torn apart" - signaling his readiness to play the escalation card.
